Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu is a Japanese light novel series written by Yushi Ukai. The title means Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table. The story is about a young girl named Yuki Sorimachi, who lives in a world where people can join deadly games. However, this story follows from Yuki wakes up to find herself in an unfamiliar manor, wearing a maid uniform and lying on a luxurious bed. Soon, she discovers five more girls, all dressed the same as her. This is the Ghost House, and the only way they can survive is to make it through the traps that lie in wait deadly games full of blowguns, buzz saws, locked rooms, and weapons. It’s hopeless, terrifying situation for everyone there… well, everyone except Yuki.

In Shibou Yuugi after all, this is her career at seventeen. Do you think that’s odd? She would agree. But that’s how some people are-they earn their living playing death games. These games are very dangerous, but if you win, you get rewards like money, food, or safety. If you lose, you might die.

Yuki is not very strong at first, but she is smart and learns quickly. She join these games because she wants to survive and help herself live a better life. Each game has different rules, traps, and enemies. Some games test strength, while others test clever thinking. Yuki often uses her brain to outsmart stronger players.
